"Blues wandelt Wut in Melancholie.
Blues wandelt Wut in Melancholie. Er hegt keine Pläne zur Veränderung (?), aber insgeheim verstohlen Dankbarkeit dafür, daß ihm Grund gegeben ist zu seiner schönen Kummerkunst. Batailon d'Amour - So 'ne kleine Frau - Schlohweißer Tag

FORTRESS EUROPE
Keep bangin' on the wall
Keep bangin' on the wall
of Fortress Europe!
2022 -A new European order
Robot guards patrolling the border
Cybernetic dogs are getting closer and closer
Armoured cars and immigration officers
A burning village in Kosovo
You bombed it out now you're telling us go home
Machine guns strut on the cliffs of Dover
Heads down people look out! we're going over
Burnin up! can we survive re-entry
Past the mines and the cybernetic sentries
Safe european homes built on wars
You don't like the effect don't produce the cause
The chip is in your head not on my shoulder
Total control just around the corner
Open up the floodgates Time's nearly up
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
Keep banging
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
We got a right , know the situation
We're the children of globalisation
No borders only true connection
Light the fuse of the insurrection
This generation has no nation
Grass roots pressure the only solution
We're sitting tight
Cos assylum is a right
Put an end to this confusion
Dis is a 21st century Exodus
Dis is a 21st century Exodus
Burnin' up can we survive re-entry
Past the landmines and cybernetic sentries
Plane, train, car , ferry boat or bus
The future is bleeding coming back at us
The chip is in your head not on my shoulder
Total control around the corner
Open up the floodgates Time's nearly up
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
Keep banging
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
This is a 21st century Exodus
This is a 21st century Exodus
They got a right - listen not to the scaremonger
Who doesn't run when they're feel the hunger
From where to what to when to here to there
People caught up in red tape nightmare
Break out of the detention centres
Cut the wires and tear up the vouchers
People get ready it's time to wake up
Tear down the walls of Fortress Europe
We read that a new Greece - Turkish border fence will be constructed to keep away the immigrants from Greece. This is the second such fence across the EU borders after the ones constructed in Ceuta and Melilla, in the Spanish-Moroccan borders. We can't forget of course the similar purposed fence across the US-Mexican borders. But as indictos has written, "it's behind the fences that the serpent's egg hatches and grows immensely". via The Musictraveler
* Strummer appeared on a BBC feature on Dylan's 60th birthday (alongside Stevie Wonder!) where he can be heard singing Dylan's praises not to mention performing "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues".
* Dylan partially covered "London Calling" on his show at the Brixton Academy in November of 2005.
When John Lee Hooker enters the Chicago studio on 27th September 1967, it's been 1 year he did not record any session and 2 months there was a 5 day riot in Detroit causing 43 dead among whom 33 were black people. John Lee Hooker composed a song about it and sang 3 others in this session, one of the best of the decade. On guitar, rarely mentioned for a reason I ignore, there was Buddy Guy. Two singles will be released from this session. Two months later, he'll record another one with the same band minus Buddy Guy, but the session will be very weak. All the songs from both sessions will be gathered on an LP released in 1968 under the name of Urban Blues. An uneven one for sure. More problematic, only the BGO CD version will feature the song "Want Ad Blues", the more widely known and easy to find MCA one withdrawing this song for the strange inclusion of 3 songs from the session John Lee Hooker did with Earl Hooker in 1969 and entitled If You Miss 'Im... I Got 'Im (you can get this almost complete session here). So, here's the only way to listen to the 27th September session: on a specific EP consisting of the 4 songs recorded this day. And the atmosphere is quite heavy and showed that this old blues man was as relevant to modern times than younger rockers such as the MC5, Jefferson Airplane or the Stones. Savor it here. Pictures are from the Detroit 1967 riots.
Van Morrison Under Review 1964-1974 is a 2 hour documentary film which covers this extraordinary musician and performers music during that period. From the formation of Them, through Vans classic solo period taking in albums such as Astral Weeks, Moondance, St. Dominics Preview, Tupelo Honey, Veedon Fleece and Its Too Late To Stop Now, this was a time of quite startling creativity in a musical career that has rarely failed to delight fans and critics alike. This program looks again at these records, and the man who made them, and in doing so provides the most enlightening, revealing and entertaining Van Morrison documentary yet to emerge.
An eerie long take filmed by Henry Kaiser on the supercool sea-floor of McMurdo Sound and set to his own music. I find it most unheimlich and despite having watched it a few times over now, it never seems anymore familiar. The diversity of the subtidal fauna is astonishing. Something distinctly unexpected happens around the six-minute mark which is worth waiting for...

Nachtrag via The Henry Kaiser Collection:
One of Henry Kaiser's most rewarding musical projects has been his collaboration with trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith (and dozens of friends), re-interpreting the music of Miles Davis - the early 70s electric period of Bitches Brew ...
Given the depth of talent and diversity of instrumentation, it's interesting to note that it's bassist Michael Manring that proves to be the anchor... and driving force. His sinister sounding, heartbeat bass provides the grounding for the band's endless fights. Kaiser's encyclopedic guitar technique mutates at every turn - synchronizing with Smith's rising trumpet lines one minute, locking onto the groove the next. He'll accent with wah-wah & spacey effects, then chunky outbursts, only to eventually take off with searing improv. Following HK's direction-prompting transitions are a treat. Give a listen to the 16 minute plus "Bitches Brew," below. Fantastic.

Kein noch so kopfdenkerisches Verhalten bei einem Thema bietet Gewähr dafür, dass nicht schon beim nächsten der Arschdenk mit voller Wucht einsetzt."

"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."
